Profession and Personal Issue. For most of us, these two things are hard to deal with specially when both of them are colliding from time to time in our daily struggle in life. And these two things made the character of Lovi Poe more challenging in her latest film, "Guilty Pleasure."
Yes, the prime actress Lovi Poe is back in the big screen after her remarkable character as Mokang in "FPJ's Batang Quiapo." And this time, Lovi is a co-producer of her own film with Regal Entertainment via her very own C’est Lovi Productions.
Inline with her movie, yours truly Runner Rocky was invited to watch and cover the Premiere Night of "Guilty Pleasure" in SM North Edsa The Block Cinema, October 15, 2024. We watched the R-16 No Cut version of the film!
The movie revolves around the story of Atty. Alexis Miranda played by Lovi and her struggle between her profession and personal issues tangled as well by the characters of JM De Guzman as Adam Lucero and Jameson Blake as Matthew Caliente. The movie is sexy and dramatic in nature, but it serves as an eye-opener to the reality of justice in our country.
Why do I say so? Well first, it's an eye-opener to the reality of law in our country since there is a part of the film that emphasize "may mga may kasalanan na hindi napaparusahan at may mga walang kasalanan na nakukulong!" Second, justice is not always served to the victims. Sometimes, victims prefer to stay quiet rather than to fight for their own justice!
Profession versus personal issues for me is my main takeaway from this film. And many of us can truly relate with this! Just like the character of Atty. Miranda, she was torn between her profession and personal matters that led her to be evicted in Atticus, the biggest law firm in the country even though she is a highly skilled attorney. This is another realization accentuated by the movie not only in the law firm but also in the corporate world and in the workplace as a whole.
The story is well-written! You can't predict what will happen and you can't easily guess the twist and the plot of the story! I love the ending part, it's a 'pasabog' that you wouldn't think the character of a professional attorney will do! Kudos to its movie writer Noreen Capili and to the director Connie Macatuno. Imagine, you wouldn't think that two women - the writer and the director can make a sexy twist in the movie!
And inline with the 'pasabog,' I love how the character of Lovi Poe as Atty. Alexis Miranda seek her own justice for the trauma of her past in her own sexy way!
Since the movie has a sexy theme, it also narrates and describes two forms of sex and intimacy via the characters of JM De Guzman and Jameson Blake - one being an abusive or sadist in bed and one being a romantic or passionate during the intercourse. A romance having a "50 Shades of Grey" setup or an intercourse with a passionate love - which one will you prefer? These also explain why during the mediacon and during the premiere night, there is a candle-light bed (red room) setup in the venues!
And oh by the way, sorry to reveal that Jameson Blake has a b*tt exposure in the movie! You will definitely love it! Viewers in the cinema screamed louder seeing Jameson's behind and I've heard most of them saying "mas makinis pa ang pw*t ni Jameson kesa sa mukha namin" right after seeing that particular scene!
I also love the soundtrack, the songs used in the movie! They were all on point! They perfectly narrate the emotions of the scenes when they used as a background. The end-credit song gives us the sense of justice and women empowerment!
And of course in terms of acting, no doubt that Lovi, JM, and Jameson were all superb in their craft. They mastered the scenes either in heavy drama or in an intimate bed scenes! But take note, the three supporting characters played by Dustin Yu, Angelica Lao, and Sarah Edwards were not left behind - "kayang-kaya nilang makipagsabayan sa mga beterano!" You wouldn't expect that an angelic face and a boy-next door type Dustin Yu can play a brat and a bad boy effectively in the movie! Even the newbie Angelica Lao can deliver heavy dramatic lines in the movie and can have a fighting confrontation scene with Lovi! And yes, Sarah Edwards didn't failed my expectation - she is really good and effective as an antagonist or a sosyal na kontrabida in the movie! All of them are really doing great in the film! Two thumbs up for the cast!
