And for today, let me share with you this exciting story about this year's edition of the Subic International Marathon. Here it goes:

The 2025 edition of the Subic International Marathon was successfully held last February 1-2 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Subic, Zambales. Some 3,000 runners joined the prestigious event presented by Extribe Inc. and carried the theme “I run for my heroes," marking the 20th anniversary of the Subic International Marathon (SIM).

Welfred Esporma topped the 42-kilometer male division, allowing him to gain a free entry to the Danang International Marathon. He finished ahead of Moiselle Angelo Alforque and Eddie Bonita, who finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

Polish long-distance runner Martyna Graban topped the women’s 42-kilometer event, beating Aida Upham (2nd) and Angela Isabelle Velasco (3rd). Graban also earned a free race entry to the Danang International Marathon.

Jonel Balila emerged victorious in the men’s 21-kilometer race, with Jose Antonio Garcia and John Raven Dela Pena completing the podium.

For the Female 5 KM race, Edellaine Mae Diggs finished first ahead of Angelic Khate Grafil (2nd) and Scottie Lee Awitan (3rd).

"Thank you to everyone who made the Subic International Marathon a success—our organizers, our incredible supporters and sponsors, and, of course, our dedicated runners,” the organizer said in a statement. “To those we couldn’t accommodate this time, we truly regret it, but we look forward to welcoming you in SIM 2026,” it added.

Subic International Marathon (SIM) started in 2005 as part of the reform program for the police scalawags as headed by then the SIM founders, current Ret. Gen. Samson Tucay and Gen. Bernie Banac. After almost a decade long hiatus, SIM 2025 was relaunched together with the premier race organizer, Extribe, Inc. Dubbed as “I run for my heroes”, SIM 2025 honors the everyday heroes such as the police, medical professionals, firefighters, soldiers, and the everyday unsung heroes who keep the world going. A highlight in the SIM 2025 ceremonies was a parade of heroes around the Remy Field in Subic Freeport Zone where the event was staged before the race start.

“Participating in and enjoying SIM will make one a heroic partner in helping put the Philippines in the World running map," Gen. Tucay said in welcoming the runners before the starting the run. “The event captures the essence of the motivation and inspiration behind participating in the SIM 2025. Each participant has their own personal heroes, whether they be family members, friends or admired figures, who have influenced and shaped their lives," Gen. Banac added. “By running for their heroes, participants channel their admiration, gratitude, and respect into their running journey, turning each step into a tribute to those who have made a difference,” he added. “We believe in the noble history of SIM and we envision it to be the Philippine marathon we can be proud of."

"Runners from all over the world can run the well-managed race while immersing in the natural beauty that Subic offers. Afterwards, runners and their families can enjoy the different attraction that SBMA offers or the beaches in the region.," said SIM partner and Extribe, Inc.’s Managing Director, Rosalyn Imperio.

The event was co-presented by the Subic Bay International Terminals Company, International Container Terminal Services Inc., Bless Our Cops Movement, Inc., Surf, Pocari Sweat, Public Safety Savings & Loan Association Inc., David’s Salon, Petron, Uni-Love, International Pharmaceutical Inc., Slimmer’s World, Subic Bay Hostel & Dormitory, Subic Bay Peninsular, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, Sinaunang Ugat, Hammer Nutrition Philippines, Pinoy Fitness, and Takbo.ph.

Once more, congratulations to all the winners and finishers! 02/11/2025 (Runner Rocky)
